Riga Radio & TV Tower and Views from the Tower, Latvia - 14th January, 2014
Riga Radio & TV Tower and Views from the Tower, Latvia - 14th January, 2014
Whilst recently in Riga I also visited the city's Radio and TV Tower, which is the tallest structure in the Baltic countries and in the European Union. It was built between 1979 and 1986 with funding from the central government of the Soviet Union. Its highest point reaches 368.5 m (1,209 ft), which makes it the third tallest tower in Europe. This video features views of the tower from Zakusala Island, which is located in the middle of the Daugava River, approximately 2 miles South east of the City centre. The video then features views over Zakusala, the Daugava River and the city of Riga and its suburbs. This footage is near dusk in January, so the light conditions are not great. The landscape has a light dusting of snow. To get to the TV tower, we took a bus from near Riga Central Railway Station to Zakusala, the pay-on-board fare was 1 Euro 20 Cents each, cheaper fares can be bought from kiosks near bus stops. From there we travelled approximately four stops to Zakusala island which is across a bridge over the Daugava River. From the bus stop you need to go down steps, under the bridge and then walk 2 kilometres along a footpath to the tower. Whilst this sounds arduous it was definitely worth it. The entry price to go up the tower was very reasonable, around 3 Euro each. This is off the beaten track, and most visitors to Riga don't go there, but it does offer quite a unique experience and I wholeheartedly recommend it.- published: 18 Jan 2014

Žižkov Television Tower, Prague, & Views Over Prague, Czech Republic - 14th October, 2013
This film features footage of, within and from the Žižkov Television Tower, which is located just outside of the city centre of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic in the suburb of Žižkov. The tower is a unique transmitter built in Prague between 1985 and 1992. It stands high above the city's traditional skyline from its position on top of a hill. The tower is an example of high-tech architecture. The tower is 216 metres high, and has a number of pods, some of which are for technical purposes as a TV transmitter, and some of which are for public / corporate use as observation decks and a bar. The outside of the tower is decorated with black crawling babies, designed as an art installation by Czech artist David Černy. This film predominantly features views over the Prague skyline on a late Summer afternoon. Visibility is reasonable, although a little misty in places. This is a great attraction in Prague and worth a visit if you are going to the City. You will find it much less busy than many of Prague's attractions.- published: 04 Jan 2014

It reaches north to Stratford, south to Lewisham, west to Tower Gateway and Bank in the City of London financial district, and east to Beckton, London City Airport and Woolwich Arsenal. Review: Hotel Chopin, Kraków, Poland - May 2014
I stayed at the Hotel Chopin in Kraków for two nights in May 2014, I paid around £65 for two night bed and breakfast. The hotel was of a very good standard, the room was small but comfortable, the staff at the hotel were excellent, and the breakfast was very good. If you are staying in Kraków and want somewhere within a 20 minute walk of the Old Town (that won't cot the earth) then I can recommend this hotel.- published: 06 Jun 2014

Review: Premier Inn, Waterloo Street, Birmingham, England - July 2014
I recently stayed in The Premier Inn hotel on Waterloo Street in Birmingham City centre while on a working visit to the City. The hotel, whilst budget was very comfortable, the room although not where I wanted to be was quiet, and the staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and I would recommend this hotel to other visitors to Birmingham who need to be near the City centre. Featured in the film is an exterior shot of the hotel building, a detailed bedroom review, reception, the restaurant, breakfast buffet and bar.- published: 03 Jul 2014

Hotel Review: Holiday Inn London - Bloomsbury, England - 14th June, 2014
This film is a short review of the Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury, London, which is a 10 minute walk from Euston, St. Pancras and King's Cross Railway Stations, and a 2 minute walk from Russell Square Tube Station. The film features views of the hotel exterior, along with a room review of 254 an internally viewing double room, there are also views of the reception, lobby, bar, restaurant and breakfast buffet. Overall I enjoyed my stay here, it wasn't cheap, at £152 per night B&B; - but that is unfortunately London prices, and it was the cheapest decent hotel we could find in the area. It was booked with booking.com. I would use this hotel again, and recommend it to other visitors to London.- published: 16 Jun 2014
